For grown-ups: what does Year 5 learn?

These games follow the National Curriculum for England, Key Stage 2 (Year 5):

  • Number: multiply and divide larger numbers (including by 10, 100 and 1000), prime, square and cube numbers, factors, and common factors.
  • Fractions, decimals and percentages: equal fractions, adding and taking away fractions, mixed numbers, and linking fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Measurement and geometry: converting units of length, mass, capacity and time, and measuring and calculating angles (straight line, full turn and right angle).
  • Reasoning: number patterns, odd one out and letter codes. These are good practice for 11+ style questions.
  • Grammar and punctuation: relative clauses, commas, brackets and dashes for parenthesis, and modal verbs.
  • Science: Earth and space (the Sun, Earth and Moon) and forces (gravity, resistance, friction and simple machines).

Note: the Reasoning Puzzles game is a light introduction to the kinds of questions found in 11+ papers. For full 11+ practice, visit the 11+ Exam Zone.

Tip: sit with your child for the first go, and talk about each answer together. More for grown-ups.
