For grown-ups: what does Year 6 learn?

These games follow the National Curriculum for England, Key Stage 2 (Year 6), and the kinds of question found in SATs and 11+ papers:

  • Arithmetic (SATs style): the four operations with larger numbers, decimals, fractions and percentages. The last level of Arithmetic Blitz is timed, like a real arithmetic paper.
  • Number and algebra: order of operations (BODMAS), ratio and proportion, missing numbers, simple formulae and linear sequences.
  • Measurement, geometry and statistics: area of triangles and parallelograms, circles (radius and diameter), volume of cuboids, mean, median, mode, range, pie charts and line graphs.
  • Grammar, punctuation and reading: active and passive voice, semi-colons, colons, hyphens, the subjunctive, formal and informal writing, and reading comprehension (retrieval, vocabulary and inference).
  • Science: the circulatory system and healthy living, evolution and inheritance, light, and electricity.
  • 11+ practice: vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, odd one out), verbal reasoning (hidden words and word completion), non-verbal reasoning (rotation, patterns, mirror images) and multi-step word problems.

Note: these games are friendly practice and warm-ups, not mock papers. Real 11+ exams differ by area and exam board (GL Assessment, CEM, or a school’s own paper), so check which one your child is sitting. For longer practice and full mock exams, use the 11+ Exam Zone.

Tip: sit with your child for the first go, and talk about each answer together. More for grown-ups.
