For grown-ups: what does Year 3 learn?

These games follow the National Curriculum for England, Key Stage 2 (Year 3):

  • Addition and subtraction: add and take away three-digit numbers using columns, with carrying and exchanging.
  • Multiplication and division: the 3, 4 and 8 times tables and the matching division facts.
  • Fractions: tenths, equivalent fractions, comparing and adding fractions with the same bottom number, and unit fractions of amounts.
  • Time: tell the time to the nearest minute, read Roman numerals to XII, and use 12-hour and 24-hour clocks.
  • Grammar and punctuation: prefixes and suffixes, conjunctions, and speech marks for direct speech.
  • Science: light and shadows, and forces and magnets.

Note: there are no timers in these games. Encourage your child to use the hint button when stuck. It shows the method, not just the answer.

Tip: sit with your child for the first go, and talk about each answer together. More for grown-ups.
