For grown-ups: what does Year 2 learn?

These games follow the National Curriculum for England, Key Stage 1 (Year 2):

  • Addition and subtraction: add and take away two-digit numbers, with and without carrying.
  • Multiplication and division: the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and the matching division facts.
  • Fractions: recognise and find ½, ⅓, ¼ and ¾ of shapes and amounts.
  • Time and money: tell the time to 5 minutes (including quarter past and to), count coins and find change.
  • Statistics: read and answer questions about pictograms and tally charts.
  • Grammar and punctuation: apostrophes for short words and belonging; nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
  • Science: habitats, what living things need to survive, and how animals and plants grow.

Note: the times tables are practised with pictures as well as numbers. Use the hint button to show an array if your child needs to see the groups.

Tip: sit with your child for the first go, and talk about each answer together. More for grown-ups.
